A unified multi-phase and multi-material formulation for combustion modeling

The motivation of this work is to produce an integrated formulation for material response due detonation wave loading. Here, we focus on elastoplastic structural response. In particular, are interested capture miscible and immiscible behaviour within condensed-phase explosives arising from the co-existence a reactive carrier mixture materials, several interfaces presence impurities such as particles or cavities. dynamic thermodynamic evolution explosive communicated one more inert confiners through their shared interfaces, which may undergo severe topological change. We also wish consider elastic plastic confiners, rather than make hydrodynamic assumption behaviour. Previous by these authors has met requirements means simultaneous solution appropriate systems equations confiners. present work, employ single system partial differential (PDEs) proposed Peshkov Romenski, able account different states matter generalising concept distortion tensors beyond solids. amalgamate that with PDEs meets requirement co-existing mixtures. mathematical derivation construct algorithms its solution. resulting model validated against exact solutions use-cases, including mechanically- thermally-induced, inviscid viscous detonations. Results indicate can accurately simulate very broad range problems involving nonlinear interaction between materials framework.
